Within the next five years, artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted to replace almost 80% of human professions, according to US-Brazilian IT CEO Ben Goertzel.
Goertzel, however, sees this change as beneficial since he thinks it will allow people to engage in more meaningful pursuits rather than just working to make their living. He said that nearly every professions involving paperwork had the potential to be automated while speaking at the Web Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
These statements come after a demand for a six-month hold on AI development in an open letter signed by various industry icons, including Elon Musk and the late Stephen Hawking. The signatories expressed worry that society and human is at serious risk due to the quick development of AI technology.
